前几天看了个电影，３００，讲的是古希腊斯巴达的王带领３００个武士，抗击波斯帝国的入侵，血战２天，全部死于杀场。但为希腊迎来了宝贵的时间，最终波斯帝国没有征服希腊。
I remembered the king said two words "respect & honor" to his wife before departure while knowing it is a journey of no return for him.
The king was protrayed as an one edged sword -- only sharp to his enemy, but to his son, wife, people, country, he carried all weight on his shoulder with passion.
We all know that Sparta is famed for its cruel upbringings of boys, all but for one purpose --- to fight, to conquer fear and death, to win.
There are a few scenes from the movie describing the boy's upbring:
blood being shed while fighting his peers; starvation; loneliness, using a spear to kill a hungry wolf ...
Is it possible for the king to become such a man with such kind of upbrings, or is it just a fancy in a movie?
Is it possible for most Spartan men coming out alive of the cruel process and becoming real men?
I don't know, it is a question.
If it is possible, how about the kind of upbringing with rules like lots of homework, lots of residing of poetry, practicing of calligraphy .... What kind of man will it lead to in general --- a real man?
I don't know, it is still a question.
