China Mobile recently launched short message service (SMS) for fixed line phones. According to a China Mobile insider, text messages taht are sent to fixed line phones will be synthesized into voice messages. The receiving fixed line phone will ring just like with a regular call. Short messages to fixed line phones need to be send to the phone number receded by "106" and the area code. Pacific Epoch successfully tested China Mobile''s service in both English and Chinese. Pacific Epoch also called China Mobile's customer service, and learned that the service is available in Shanghai, Jilin province, Hebei provinces, and Jiangsu province. According to the customer service representative, the service costs 0.15 Yuan a minute and works for short messages in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
