In latest HBR issue, there is one interview with GE CEO Jeff Immelt. There is something of above mentioned subject. His wording is

... We've gotten out of business where finding for leadership couldn's get good results. Motors is an example. We couldn't see a way to get a good return even if we funded for leadership there, so we sold that business. Similarly, we used to have a private equity investment business. We shut that down because there was no product excellence. We were just a wallet.
