让我们想像一个在硅谷奋战一生的老工程师在退休之际,也许早已记不得他曾为哪一个公司写过哪些程序,但他很有可能会咂吧着嘴告诉你:Apple的饭最好吃!香香辣辣的; Sun每天有20种不同口味的Odwalla果汁;Broadcom 每晚六点半后供应包括慢火烧烤牛排,例汤和甜点的特价定食,只收$3,还敬请合第光临,这一来,员工可有机会在孩子们上床前得以在公司里见上他们一面啦!我成功地潜入过Ebay食堂若干次,不过得自己付帐,因此风险不大,要不是冲着那每天现拌的生鲔鱼片色拉才懒得去。可是要去Google的食堂确很有些挑战性,那是当时硕果仅存的一天三餐免费供应的公司,每天想溜进去蹭饭的真不少,据说当年还有人在网上忠实地记录下Google食堂保安状况侦察记,比如哪个餐厅的岗哨比较松啊,保安何时换班啊,哪个时段去食堂的人流比较壮大便于隐身啊、、、、
我终于抵受不了我在Google的朋友几次诚恳相邀的诱惑,也踏进了简直可称为硅谷“奇客”之旅新景点的Google员工食堂。临行前,那位殷勤又心细的朋友更是不忘在午餐前一个小时接连投放给我三枚Email,包括了将在Google位于其山景城总部的几个食堂亮相的当日所有午餐菜单。(为了保持神秘感,当天菜单只在开饭前一到两小时前宣布)。我将那些排列得有如十四行诗般的菜谱通读了一遍,这对消磨白食前那段尤其难耐的等待时光非常有效,带着对主食堂那几味糖衣香蕉山核桃花型蛋糕,巧克力奶油小馅饼,希腊千层薄皮果仁蜜饼等甜食难以取舍的头痛,这就上路了。
亲历证明,这不仅是一场简单的美食之旅,这更是一场环球的健康美食之旅,联合国式的食盘上,有尊严的鸡胸脯声称生前始终被“鸡道”地自由放养着,粉红小牛排自述送上屠宰台时,自己嘴里还塞满嫩草呢,是不靠激素长大的绿色有机好肉牛,如果你有兴趣,鱼儿可以给你看他们嘴上的小圆洞,来证明自己可都是活钓上来的,而非张网捕捞的、、、、被Google的白食撑得贼跑地回到了办公室,我吃饱饭没事做地Google了一下 “Google Food”,0.0001秒里Google为我揪出一个被Google食物撑得更饱的人:一个叫Brett L的人,以Google Food为名在Flickr相片网站上,持续地,忠实地拍摄他在Google食堂吃过的各色饭食((https://www.flickr.com/photos/brettlider/sets/154249/)。Google员工Brett琢磨着既然他不能透露任何上班内容,那么唯有靠这些食物才能让人窥到他八小时内的一斑。Brett进食前也很有米其林星级厨师给食物拗造型的劲头,比如用几根小香菜和一撮堆绿椰菜硬是搞出了一个振翅欲飞小乳鸽的造型。他还一如尽职的程序质检员般地,忠诚地记录着自己对免费午餐的评价,他如此评论某日的午餐:“汤太美妙了,但是偏咸了,做成小陷饼样子的甜菜根比我想象中的要好,意面做的很实在,有嚼劲,内有上好的橄揽,唯一美中不足的是小只的黄色西红柿偏软偏甜了,真是不太衬呢!”
这些年来,我的Email信箱已渐渐地从Yahoo转到了容量更大的Gmail,即时通讯软件从Yahoo IM转到了界面更清洁的G Talk,地图指路工具也从Yahoo Map转到了有卫星三维俯视效果的Google Map,如若下次Yahoo的朋友约我吃午饭,我会建议她不如我们一起去找Google的朋友,来个G Lunch吧。和Google其他免费产品一样,不损毫发而来的白食,总有那种令人想立即搓搓小手的美好。但是我知道,因为我文中提及希腊千层薄皮果仁蜜饼,我给编辑发完稿件并收到她的回信的话,我的Gmail右边广告链接栏里,一定会出现诸如“美好希腊岛屿十日游”的字样,那就让小手继续兴奋地搓下去吧!
