Job Family Description:
Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new external products. Develops, tests, and documents software programs including operating systems and/or applications to be use in new products or the modification of existing products.
Position Description:
This position will be responsible for the design and implementation of Linux kernel components, and porting those components to new Freescale microprocessors. In this role, an engineer will be expected to work with minimal supervision, and provide guidance to more junior level engineers. The position is focused on cross-architecture software design, design for portability, and design for test in an embedded environment. The work products of this position include: Linux kernel frameworks to support peripherals and high-speed interfaces, and interconnects. This position will communicate and collaborate frequently with engineers in other countries.
Required Skills:
· Minimum of 6 years of embedded systems programming using Linux, UNIX or POSIX-compliant operating systems.
· Thorough knowledge of embedded and real-time programming principles.
· Prior experience with system-on-chip (SoC) microprocessors.
· 2 years of Linux programming experience in C/C++ -OR- 5 years using Linux-hosted development tools for another embedded operating system.
· Experience programming one or more of the following: USB, PCI, PCI-Express, DDR, flash, MMU, interrupt controllers, Ethernet, or WLAN.
· Experience using JTAG-based debuggers, protocol analyzers, network traffic generators, or other analysis tools.
· Very good English skills.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience developing networking protocol stacks.
· Experience developing control-plane software for automotive or consumer electronics devices.
· Experience working with the open-source community, including submission of patches to project maintainers.
· Knowledge of at least 1 assembly language (PowerPC, ARM, x86, M68k)
