Free Business Planning Software Tools in Excel and Word
To assist you in developing your business plan we have produced a number of free financial models and free business plan templates. You are welcome to use these for your own project.

Free Business Plan & Financial Plan Templates
These templates and models have been produced in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. To run them you will require any versions of Word or Excel from Excel 97 and later, or Word 6 and beyond. They may work on earlier versions and on other programmes too.
The financial plan templates will help you produce a full set of financial statements without the need for accountancy expertise - including ratio analysis, cashflows, etc.
To help you to quickly get a feel for the financial dynamics of your project (an understanding of the amount of units you would require to break even, or to make a certain amount of profit, the effects of different unit costs, and what profit different prices would deliver...), we have produced some more free financial models in MS Excel to calculate break even points and dynamics.
The free business plan template provides a structure, guidance, and some sample content to get you moving on the buiness plan production.
Free Financial Business Plan Template - Excel
This model will help you produce a three year forecast, with the first year on a monthly basis, and including:
- Profit & Loss Account
- Balance Sheet
- Cashflow Statement
- Cash Balance Graph
- Operating Ratios

Free Break Even Model & Pricing Tools - Full Version
The Break Even Point (BEP) is the point at which an operation covers all its costs (both the variable and fixed costs). Above this point it the operation achieves a trading profit - below it a loss.
Break even models can be very useful in understanding the dynamics of the business, the effects of variations in fixed and variable costs, and even when it comes to pricing.
The models will provide Break Even Points in terms of Units Sold, or in terms of Sales Revenues, and can use either unit variable costs in absolute ammounts or in percentage terms.

Free Break Even Model & Pricing Tools - Quick Version
This is a summary version of the above on two pages. It is particularly useful for quick scenario testing and what if questions. For this version you do need to already distinguish between your operation's variable costs and total fixed costs. The full version gets you to put in all the costs and guides you through the process.

Free Business Plan Template - Word
The free Business Plan Template includes detailed guidance on what should be included in each section as well as example text for fictional projects.
Tailor the plan template to your business. Add sections, or subdivide areas of particular importance. You may even want to remove the section on Industry Structure if it covers more detail than you think is relevant to your project.
