are relatively mid-sized private equity firms such as Carlyle, Warburg Pincus, Ripplewood Holdings, GS Partner Capital, JP Morgan, and MS. They have been looking for small and mid-sized fishes to catch and there are not many available. On the other hand, the real big guys such as KKR, Blackstone Group, Bain Capital, and Texas Pacific would love to get a foothold in China market, but there is simply no any deal big enough for their appetite. They are looking for at least $1 billion to $10 billion deals and even $15 billion deals which for the time being only available in the USA or Europe. They will not set up a deal unless they can make at least an annual return of 20% plus, or even better, to double or triple their initial investment in one to two years. For instance, I remember a few years back KKR together with Blackstone and other two firms bought a Texas utility company with a $3.1 billion price tag. Within one year they sold the company for $8.7 billion. According to Blackstone's Mr. Schwarzman they are cashing in some 8 times to 10 times of the gain from their investments in energy sector!
Therefore, as a small potato investor I am expecting at least 20% capital gains from my portfolio annually as well. As I said yesterday, whenever I buy, you sell short. Look at today's market! We had a wonderful shorting day. If Intel stock is down another 10% or more, my second buy will kick in. I am preparing for 5 buys on this stock in different entry stages and ready not to touch this money for 10 years. )
