Big penalties for underestimating your tax bill could spoil your holidays, says Paul Sullivan from Financial Times.
The I.R.S. penalties for underestimating the tax you owe have been rising. This means the bonus that lands in the 4th quarter and causes your income to skyrocket could be hit with a 7% penalty. That additional $1m in income over the last year, be it from incentive compensation, final profits, bonuses or deferred compensation, could be subject to a $70,000 fine, the price of Porsche 911....
