Zagat Survey Publishes First Shanghai Restaurant Guide
Zagat Survey(R), the world's leading provider of consumer survey-based leisure content, today released its first English-language Shanghai Restaurant Guide. The guide, which is based on feedback from Shanghai travelers who dined out an average of 4.2 times per week, is designed to help visitors to Shanghai make smart dining and travel decisions. The new pocket-sized book covers 247 restaurants and 32 leading hotels in Shanghai and surrounding areas, rated and reviewed by 1,773 avid restaurant-goers and travelers. Zagat Survey's ratings and reviews are based on the shared opinions of thousands of avid consumers with real experiences. Survey participants used Zagat Survey's signature 30-point scale to rate Food, Decor and Service in restaurants and Rooms, Dining, Service and Public Facilities at hotels. In addition, the guide features helpful indexes categorized by cuisine, location and special features such as late-night dining, people watching and romantic places.
Nina and Tim Zagat, co-founders of Zagat Survey, say, "In recent years Shanghai has become one of the world's fastest growing cities. In the process it has been transformed into a truly world-class culinary destination. Shanghai has leapt beyond simple Chinese restaurants to offer some of the world's most creative and diverse cuisine. In the same brief period, Shanghai has added a number of world class hotels such as The Four Seasons and The Grand Hyatt."
In addition to rating and reviewing Shanghai restaurants and hotels, Zagat Survey measured local consumer behavior. As with everywhere else in the world, service is the weak link in the Shanghai restaurant industry, receiving 45% of surveyor complaints. Smoking, noise, crowding, communication issues, traffic and cleanliness cumulatively account for the remaining irritants.
