Wu-Fu Chen (陈五福) --- Founder Of A-corn Campus (橡子园创办人)
Mr. Chen is the Chairman and Founder of A-corn Campus. Mr. Chen founded and has also held other Chairman, CEO and President positions with: Ardent Communications, Arris Networks, SanCom Corporation and Cameo Communications and Lucent subsidiary, Communications Equipment Corporation.
He previously was Vice President of Technologies at Cisco Systems. He was responsible for leading Cisco’s MC3810 Integrated Voice, Data & Video Access Concentrator product development team to completion. He also participated in Cisco’s service provider’s Voice Strategy & Technologies panel. Wu-Fu is best known for his role as founder and Vice President of Engineering at Cascade Communications. His leadership guided Cascade through its IPO in 1994 and on to the company’s peak of nearly $10 Billion in Capitalization.
His technology expertise includes experience with WDM/SONET, Digital Loop Carrier, Frame Relay Switching, Remote Access Servers, ATM Switching, T1 and Wireless Local Loop.
Wu-Fu holds an MSEE degree from the University of Florida in 1976 and a BSEE degree from the National Taiwan University in 1972. He was also in Computer Science Ph.D. program, UC Berkeley, between 1976 to 1977. His professional experience in chronological order follows:
April, 1999 - Now Chairman & Acting CEO, Santera Systems, Optimight Communications, Geyser Networks. Founded these companies to work on Super-Class CO switch, New Multiplexing scheme for fiber, and Access Bandwidth Management for SONET, respectively.
August, 1998 - April, 1999 Chairman & CEO, Anda Networks and Shasta Networks. Joined Anda Networks, which develops fourth generation DLC (Digital Loop Carrier) for Local Exchange Carriers, and Shasta, which develops Integrated Service Node for Internet Service Providers.
July, 1997 - August, 1998 Vice President of Technologies, MSABU, Cisco. Joined Cisco when Ardent was acquired. During one-year tenure, leading MC3810 (an integrated voice, data, and video access concentrator) product development to completion and participated in Cisco’s service providers’ voice strategy and technologies panel.
June, 1996 - August, 1997 CEO & President, Ardent Communications. Founded Ardent with Cisco and Sequoia Capital to develop an integrated Voice, Data, and Video Concentrator for ATM/Frame Relay networks. Great progress led to early acquisition by Cisco.
June, 1995 - April, 1996 CEO & President, Arris networks, MA. Founded Arris with North Bridge and Matrix Partners to develop first Carrier Class Remote Access Server for ISPs. The company was acquired by Cascade on the eve of its first prototype board arrival.
April, 1994 - Now Chairman, SanCom Corporation, TX, Founded SanCom with Chinese PTT to develop ATM switches and Wireless Local Loop products for Chinese domestic market. The company later on spans off Cwill to focus on Wireless Local Loop.
October, 1990 - June, 1995 Vice President of Engineering, Cascade Communications, MA. Founded Cascade with Matrix Partners and Alex Brown to develop Frame Relay Switch for Services Providers. The company did IPO on July 28, 1994 and reached near $10 Billions in Capitalization at its peak.
March, 1990 - April, 1991 CEO & President, Cameo Communications, Taiwan. Founded Cameo Communications with D-Link in Science Park in Taiwan to develop 10-BaseT Concentrator for Enterprise market. The company is still a close alliance of D-Link.
December, 1988 - March, 1990 Vice President, Engineering, CEC subsidiary of Lucent (then AT&T), MA. Joined Lucent when CEC was acquired. Participated in re-architect and design of the product to meet new requirements.
June, 1986 - December, 1988 VP of Engineering, Communications Equipment Corporation, MA. Founded CEC with Matrix Partners to develop packet based T1 Multiplexer for private networks. The company was acquired by Paradyne, which was acquired by Lucent (then AT&T), right after its prototype delivery.
June, 1981 - June, 1986 Director of Product Development, Bytex Corporation, MA. First Software Engineer hired by the company. Led software development of its initial product, Electronic Matrix Switch for banking applications. As a result of completing FCS in nine months, I was promoted to lead its second generation product, which was successful completed in eighteen months.
January, 1979 - June, 1981 Project Leader/Scientist, Wang Laboratories, MA. Led development of Transaction Recovery subsystem of Wang’s Relational DBMS and session layer of WangNet.
December, 1977 - January, 1979 Software Analyst, Harris Corporation, FL. Rewrote File subsystem and Disk scheduling subsystem of Real-Time OS for Harris’s minicomputer.
