Industrial Design Expert
Scope
• Take a lead role in LES design team in the area of user interactions and interfaces of product/services or key solution components; informing and influencing the greater design and interaction strategies.
• Work collaboratively across functional and business boundaries to architect and realize customer interactions that deliver value to the customer and business
• Provide system level and detailed interaction design perspective to ensure integrated hardware, software and web system that provides an optimum customer experience for products from out-of-the-box, through initial learning and then daily usage.
• Effectively partner with Customer Insights team as well as manage design/ customer research necessary to inform program, product-line & sub-brand activities
• Develops design business cases impacting product lines/categories and works with others to regularly play a more strategic role.
• Is recognized as a thought-leader within the design community, and models what a good interaction designer should be
Key skills and capabilities include:
• Applying design, customer and business knowledge to address complex business issues with solutions that are compelling to customers, and meet business goals
• Understanding of key phases of both the design and development process and systematically moving from requirements analysis through design in pursuit of optimum solutions
• Understanding of production implications of design and works with stakeholders to resolve challenges
• Able to incorporate and balance business, customer and technical requirements in a way that achieves optimum design balance
• Develops appropriate interaction/interface design artifacts to effectively document and communicate design intents and decisions.
• Aligns the work of others with corporate design practices & governance
• Aligns design work with the HP brand; contributing and leveraging design language, methods and tools, design and brand standards
• Selects, evaluates and manages approved strategic and tactical design or customer research vendors
• Able to break deadlocks, and commits to actions without knowing every consequence, and appropriately applies skills in areas outside of expertise
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Interaction or Interface Design, or equivalent work experience, in interaction/interface design (Masters preferred)
• 6-9 years working in similar design discipline
• IT or consumer electronics design experience preferred
• Enterprise/Commercial interaction design, a plus
• Completion of business strategy courses or workshops a plus
• Must have strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Must have excellent teamwork, communication, and technical problem-solving skills to contribute within multi-functional and multi-disciplined project team(s).
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects in a fluid, fast-paced environment. Expected to demonstrate a high level of initiative.
