General Manager- Operations





Our client is a US based industrial company which provides top metal contract manufacturing services. And due to their increased activities in China Region, an opportunity has now arisen for the role of General Manager, based in their Kunshan plant to take the responsibilities for further developing the production capacities, overall operations management, plant development, organization management and the involvement in market /business development.



Role Purposes:

 This position is the key leader responsible for all manufacturing and related activities for the Plant. Functions under direct management include: manufacturing, quality, engineering, supply chain, planning and production control, capital investment, environmental health and safety (EHS), purchasing, HR.

 Helps drive superior results in global customer service, quality, safety, and operational excellence.

 Through improvement initiatives and strategic change management projects aimed at productivity, capital investments, product rationalizations, make vs. buy decisions, and by careful conversion of the business to a “lean” culture in all aspects.

 The position helps build a self-sustaining leadership team and a talent pool with bilingual capabilities in the functions directly managed by this position. Work closely with relevant regional and corporate groups to ensure consistent implementation of corporate HR/OA and financial policies.

 Working closely with China commercial teams to implement an annual business plan that is aligned with the business strategies of our front ends, and in concert with the global operations strategy.



Key Deliverables:

 Manage all aspects of the plant. This includes developing the annual business and operating plans, managing all operations and maintenance functions and directing all quality and HR activities.

 Working closely with local and international business teams in identifying the needs, business proposing, presentation.

 Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning. Responsible for participating and assigning the resources to accurately reflect the supply side. This includes developing the tools and data sources for effective planning and communication.

 Manage and oversee the HR/OA activities of the plant. This includes the implementation and compliance to all local and corporate HR/OA requirements as well as the development and maintenance of the operative and staff workforces. Actively participates in the hiring, staffing, training and development, succession planning, and coaching/mentoring as required.

 Manage and oversee quality functions at the plant. This includes obtaining and maintaining the necessary industry and customer qualifications (e.g. TS16949, ISO9001, QS 9000 etc.).

 Manage and oversee the engineering functions at the plant. This includes new product/program implementation, capital investment plans and continuous improvement.

 Along with other leaders on site, responsible to represent The Company when dealing with local and state officials of government, the community, educators and community media.



Accountability:

 Have direct & indirect responsibilities for areas including plant budget,manufacturing expenses,project,assests,sales,and others.



Authority:

 Make recommendations for any personnel actions. Have management responsibilities.



Experiences:

 Broad manufacturing and business experience; knowledge and experience with lean and cellular manufacturing, demonstrated leadership in managing a plant (or a variety of plant functional areas) to achieve aggressive performance targets.

 Proven talent in building and developing an organization which can sustain performance in the absence of continuous leadership; ability to build teams, introduce and implement new business systems and work across cultures.

 Must be execution oriented and rigorous in meeting performance commitments. Demonstrated understanding of how to load and flow product through a plant; experience in negotiating with external suppliers; in-depth knowledge in manufacturing, sourcing, group facilitation, budget and asset management, and manpower planning.

 International experience and/or fluency in both English and Mandarin would be considered a plus.

 Experiences on market/business development a plus.



Job Knowledge, Skills

 10+ years’ experiences in production management, order fulfillment, supply chain management, lean leadership, quality and technology.

 Knowledge of metallurgy a plus



Qualifications and Personalities:

 Degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, Economics, or equivalent, with advanced training in business.

 Ability to prioritize and multi-task many different forms of work input that are both strategic and operational in nature.

 Strong business sense on Chinese market.

 True self-starter with the ability to work towards goals.

 Be able to effect changes in the organization efficiently.

 Mature and professional staff management skills.

 Maintain a high degree of professionalism when dealing with customers and fellow Associates.

 High level of languages of both Mandarin and English required.
