Engineers on this team are building large scale systems that manage Virtual Infrastructure, probably focused on networking aspect. They use virtualization as a key technology to design and implement solutions that solve real-world problems. Their work focuses on developing scalable software capable of managing virtualization systems in datacenters and cloud.
As a Staff Engineer, the candidate will lead the design and implementation of key subsystems within an enterprise-class server management platform. The candidate must be able to actively contribute to design and architecture discussions. The applicant must have a strong understanding of the software development process with an excellent track record in troubleshooting and diagnostics. Prior success in and enthusiasm for a fast-paced environment with aggressive development cycles is critical. You must also be capable of leading a development team to take these ideas to implementation.
Responsibilities:
•Design and develop the mission-critical control and systems-management software for VMware's virtualization products, taking into account scalability, reliability, security and usability.
•Work with UI engineers and usability specialists to provide the appropriate abstractions for exposing the underlying concepts in the physical and virtual infrastructure.
•Provide strong leadership through all phases of development - product design, detailed UI design, functional requirements, and development.
•Create key components, framework and coach junior developers to ensure the successful implementation of their designs.
•Establish and enforce interface consistency while developing innovative designs
•Work with QA engineers and ensure software testability, quality and stability
•Document and explain feature specifications for complex and/or innovative features
Requirements:
•Master or PhD degree in Computer Science or equivalent from a leading university/institute
•6+ years of industry experience with 3+ years in a technical leadership position
•Strong experience of developing client-server, web, distributed or clustered applications in C, C++, C# or Java
•Experience in building systems-management, networking relative and monitoring applications is a big plus
•Proven ability to deliver commercial quality software
•Extensive experience designing modular, object-oriented and server-side software with high performance
•Understanding and project experience of computing system architecture, including processors, memory, storage and networking is highly desirable
•Must be comfortable of development on both Windows and Linux environments
•Excellent written and verbal communications skills in both Chinese and English
•Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
