Sr. Optical Dev Engineer
Job Description:
The optical Engineer for optical system development will be responsible for being a key participant in Optical design team for the identified transport products. As a key member of the development team, the individual will develop creative (i.e. low-cost & timely) solutions to complex optical subsystem and optical network issues and develop various aspects of design verification, optical span design, loss budget, diagnostics and functionality for the assigned modules including various line card, EDFAs, and optical filters, protection switching mechanisms and related functions. Highly independent technical engineer requiring minimum supervision. Interact regularly with hardware engineering and software development peers as well as the other engineering functional groups. Understands and commits to overall task level goals & project level schedules.
- A key contributor to the overall optical sub-system, and optical component engineering efforts
- Understands & delivers to optical card design schedules
o Owns specific optical WDM Mux/Demux , OADM, EDFA card deliverables
o Works with the team lead to set the schedules, and participates in board bring-up activities as well as & troubleshooting,
o Activities leading to prototype delivery as required
- Successfully completes all assigned optical development tasks leading to card delivery for system integration & verification testing
- Is skilled & knowledgeable with optical component and system, such as OSNR, cross-talk, insertion loss, EDFA noise figure, gain flatness and related parameters
- Interfaces and works directly with other hardware and software team members and other functional groups in the metro access engineering team
Requirement：
- BS, Ms or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering , Applied Physics or related majors
- 4-8 years optical engineering development experience required, with at least three years on optical components such as optical filter, coupler, WDM device, tunable laser, and fiber amplifiers.
- Familiar with optical transmission span design, fiber dispersion , optical nonlinear, and PMD impact, as well as trade off among the above effects
- Familiar with the standard process of design verification test.
- Experience on the optical control plane is definitely a plus.
- Experience with optical testing equipment, such as optical spectrum analyzer, tunable laser, tunable filter, BER tester for SONET and Ethernet
- Programming skill using vb.net and Labview is desired
- Being able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Sound skills in reading, writing and oral English, English level four is required
- Good people skill, good at coordinating work among peers and interfacing with other functional groups
