The cost analysis is not "Apple to Apple"!
"从衣食住行医疗教育娱乐旅行等基本的生活消费来看,除了买房子的花费之外(这是为什么我第一条先单独谈房子的原因),目前国内大城市的每月1.5万人民币收入的人的生活水平一点都不比在美国年收入7-8万美元的人的生活水平差。所以若是回去能谋个月薪2万人民币的工作,我觉得就很正常也很不错了。"
RMB180K = $80K ? Exchange ratio 1 : 2.1?
1. How can you leave out the housing on the left side of the equation while include everything on the right hand side?
2. If you use $80K in NY or CA, then you should compare that to Beijing or Shanghai.
3. Most Chinese from the mainland are professionals living in metro areas earning $80K or more (I am talking about professional jobs which will get you RMB180K in China).
4. 33% tax rate flat in US? Have you filed any return in US? Yes, tax bracket can be that high, but with all the deductions, the flat tax against your gross income should be less than 20%. If more than 20%, you did not maximize your tax benefits.
With $80K income in US, if you live the same level as in China, a modest condo($1200/month mortgage), a subcompact car($200/month), no 401K deduction($1000/mon), 20% flat tax rate, you take home $6666*0.8=$5300/month. Minus the mortgage and car payment, you have $3900. If you spend $1900 each month, you save $2000 a month, or $24K yearly! Now tell me, buddy, can you do that with RMB180K?
Most of you (including me) will ask: where's my saving of $24K? I don't feel that rich. It's in your big SUV, a $300K suburban house and your 401K. But you see, you don't get that with a RMB180K in China.
