Some people here say: you have an affair with a girl in the bar, but marry a wife from the church. Attendance of church service turns out to be a signal, to some extent.

听一个半路出家的华人牧师--maybe not accurate. The pastors here I see in California are educated in Taiwan Christian schools or in US church schools.
For Catholics, their ministers are well-trained in early stage and they can not be 半路出家.

-- they were mistreated in the past inUS, partially because of polygamy practices (BEFORE they went to Utah). Cult or not, it is purely personal judgment. Jesus is only a prophet in their book, which naturally caused some negative feeling among evanglical christians.
Catholic现在美国也有很大的势力，但不是主流，Bush上次竞选就指出Kerry是Catholic，所以大家不要选他。当然，把宗教和政治搀在一起是很下作的做法。

If you read the book about the bloody treatment protestants got in 17th-18th century from the Catholic church, some suspicions, though weird, might be more understandable.
BTW, fyi, Catholics are mainly descendants of Irish, Polish and Italian immigrants. These three are strongholds of Catholic churches in Continental Europe: Italy is home to Rome; Poland is the hometown of Pope John II and all Irishmen are Catholics.
These days, the abortion issued allied Catholics and evanglicals. Now 5 judges in the supreme court are catholics.

-- Roman governor crucified Jesus. Jews asked for that, here, both sides should take the blame. Evanglicals Christians are different from Catholics here. Historically catholics are very intolerant of Jews. But evanglicals learned from their poor experience and are relatively more tolerant of Jews in the new world. That's why we see that Jews thrived in US, but not in other old world nations.
