A number of professional jobs offer this type of compensation for fresh graduates:
1. First-year associate at an U.S. law firm. Most first-year associates are 25 years old or younger (finish college at 22 or younger, then spend 3 years at a law school). The base salary is normally around $120K, Skadden arps offers even higher base.
2. First-year associate at an U.S. investment bank. Most first year associates are 26 years old or older, they normally work for at least 2 years after finishing college, then spend 2 years at b-schools. The base started at $95K for class 2005 graduates. Of course, bankers don't work for base, bonus is the juicy part...
3. First-year consultant at an U.S. consulting firm, base is around $120K for McKinsey.
4. Most U.S. corporate jobs for top MBA graduates started at $90K last year...
What I don't understand is why she thought about asking for lower pay, didn't she know the market compensation for the job, or she wasn't confident that she worth that much?
It makes me think someone got the job, but not her...
