had the pleasure of having my friends' teenage daughter as a travel companion on her way back to China to visit her relatives. Her observation about her Chinese counter-parts struck me in awe - "the way they talk is very funny, they talk the same way in front of and behind their parents." In a way, the Americans know what to say to be politically correct, but whether they really think it that way is hard to guess. You see the crooks in the Enron, Worldcom, Health South and other scandals. But I think over all, the majority of the Americans are pretty decent. The law and enforcement also make sure of that.
