but company always put something in the contract to protect themselves if the contract is terminated due to "market conditions", in that case, it could be 1 year or even several months.
Sometimes, the company will specify the length of assignment would be 1 year with possibility of extention by mutual agreement. The trick is that the company will ask you to reduce benefit or salary after one year, if you are not willing to do that, you will have to either return to headquarter or become a "locally hired expat."
