In 1989, I visited Africa:
One day in Bungee, Capital of Republic of Central Africa.
Back in my hotel after a city outgoing, I asked my local Chinese friend: “Several times, the locals waved their hands to us and said ‘niii haooo’. What were they saying to us?” My friend said: “They are greeting you ‘你好’, Chinese have very good reputation here.”
One day in a store, Nairobi, Kenya:
Store keeper: “Where are you from?”
Me: “Can you guess?”
SK: “Japanese?”
Me: “No.”
SK: “Korean?”
I smiled: “No.”
SK: “Singaporean?”
I shacked my head.
SK gave up: “Where are you from, then?”
Me: “China”
SK: “You don’t look like a Chinese!”
Remark: What a typical Chinese looks like?! Do they real know Chinese people?
