怪不得Bob keeps the financial situation to himself without saying a word to her about the dire consequence if the deal falls through, he figures that he'd be better off letting his wife dream on, not wake up and smell the coffee. I can see the male pattern of thinking here: If she knows, she'll be of no any help but only worry her pretty little head to death; Or worse, she'll meddle with his business dealing, try to persuade him to cut the loss and fold to avoid getting deeper in red. (Darned it, I actually did it once  ); Or the worst case - turning her into a 祥林嫂 babbling for the rest of her life about her regrets for not talking him out of his crazy plan in the first place。
If 琼瑶is accused of poisoned the female readers' minds with her pulp fictions, Bob's male adventure/fantacy and the likes are also detrimental to marriages which were happy albeit a little bland before the husbands were lured away by the unrealistic expectation of rich and liaisons, not mentioning ruining lives of those "sea turtles" who jump right in and come up empty.
Oh well, I'm not trying to hold Mr. An responsible here. I know , I know, that's the reality of current China. Then again, if everyone makes concession to the reality and makes no effort to change it, then the society as a whole will be stagnant with no progress whatsoever. Like they said, we owe the progresses to those who wouldn't accept things as usual.
