I have no investment style or secret weapons. Sometimes returns were better than 15% annually sometimes it was lot less than that. Just use my common senses, plus study the company in question in details. The key to success is a combination of hard work, enough practice and experience in playing with real money, some necessary financial academic background and lots lots of good luck!! Timing is everything. If you feel uncomfortable with a deal or a stock, no matter how attractive it seems like, walk away from it even it proved you were wrong. Sometimes your guts feeling is the best judgement.
The other day you raised a very interesting question about George Soros not shorting US$$ or buying in RMB. And Blah Blah enlightened us all in this regards. Besides, who knows Soros is NOT behind thos hot money rushing into Shanghai to buy RMB denominator buildings?? This is one big way to buy in RMB. It is not easy to short US$ or try to gain an upper hand against the Wall Street simply because of the size of its economy. Also Soros will not shoot himself in the foot if he has tons of financial assets in US$ denominator. In 90s Asian financial storms Soros was attacking HK$. He sold short HK stocks, converted HK$ to US$ to depress both HK stocks and currency markets in a big way! HK government had only two choices at that time to stablize its financial markets: 1) raise interest rate to help HK$, which will hurt HK stocks; or 2)devalue HK$. Either way Soros would be a winner. But Soros forgot HK's mainland background. Beijing loaned HK tons of foreign reserves to buy HK stocks when Soros was selling short of them, to successfully support its financial markets. Was it three years ago HK government was thinking how to let the market digest its huge holdings without pushing down the stock markets? I didn't pay much attention when I was in HK at that time. Anyway, my point is you are playing with fire if you are playing against a big government.
