It is true that Chinese are weak in terms of sports at the foundation level. But Chinese do need something to build up self-confidence and also stuff to fight against European superiority.
China ranked 2nd in Greek Olympic, mainly due to the financial resources accumlated through economic reforms. 20 years ago, we were too poor to even finance the training/overseas trip of the athletes.

If the newspaper argues that Russians have higher educational levels than Chinese, I will still agree with him. But other comments are pure narcissism.
