was to reverse engineer other firm's products, it's a theft of product design and I doubt the German company didn't have any copyright or patent or license agreement prohibiting that kind of activity. That's not the right way to build a sustainable business.
I'm sure I'm inviting attacks here. Here is some constructive suggestion for you: If you guys have this kind capability, why not to take your prototype to the German company and offer them as the manufacturing outsourcing facility or offer to build a new line of low-cost products, it could be just for the chinese market. You could be selling for lots more, with their branding, than the 1/3 and earn a healthy margin for your firm.
