The complexity that gradually develops in a successful company brings with it both opportunity and peril. Former Cisco SVP and OpenWave COO Mr. Kevin Kennedy will show us how to assess corporate health and correct weaknesses in leadership, strategy, product, marketplace alignment, governance, and more. He will reveal how to turn this complexity to a company's advantage and offer practical advice easily applied to real everyday situations. Mr. Kennedy will discuss the stages of evolution of companies, contrasting the nature of challenges experienced in startups, in companies on the rise, and in well-established, multibillion-dollar companies.
Speaker: Kevin Kennedy, CEO of JDS Uniphase Corporation, Co-Author of “Going the Distance: Why Some Companies Dominate and Others Fail”

2:00 p.m. Entrepreneur Panel: Built to Last - Entrepreneurs' Perspective on Building a Sustainable Company
Entrepreneurs hope to translate their passion for their concepts into their own definitions of success - an IPO, an acquisition, or building a long-term sustainable company. But being a great entrepreneur is not just to recognize when you're in the right place at the right time and know what to do about it. Something far more important is enduring and standing the test of time.
There are no shortcuts to building a sustainable company. Leading the dynamic of change and cultivate the “build to last” cultural transformation during economic downturn also challenges our panelists, who will talk about what makes a good entrepreneur, how do you balance the incentive structure to "Build to Flip" vs. "Build to Last", and what makes a good idea fly and transforms it into a genuinely sustainable company that will prosper long into the twenty-first century and beyond.

The emergence of China is viewed as a positive and dynamic force in the world economy, and a strong force in supporting the economic systems on which global prosperity depend. The economic implications of China's development as a great power are profound, creating economic shockwaves that rebounded around the world. Increasing number of foreign venture capital companies are optimistic about China's economic prospects as well as the growth of its venture capital industry. More of them plan to increase their investment in China and are actively searching out investment opportunities in China. Not surprisingly, opportunities also come with risks.
How to find attractive deals in China? Will there be realistic and achievable exit strategies? How do the role of government and its regulations affect private equity investment? Our panelists, consisting of Silicon Valley VC veterans, will discuss about their view of the China wave.
