I've been accusing of the guy who fueled all these twin bubbles for a long while, though a lot of people here r still viewing him as a great man who repeatedly saved the world, even after Alan himself admitted how wrong he was.
As I said before, the interest has been kept too low, the risk has been priced too cheap, for too long a time; While the regulators being too behind the curve.
America, or to be more general, the economy of free markets thrives on the activity of risk taking, and the ensuring consequence taken by the risk taker accordingly. That is something that we were really missing, here and there, now and then.
Those 2 that you mentioned above can both be contributed to Mr. Greenspan, if you wish to.

However, i would argue that your statement about the over-speculativeness of the market is lacking of quantitative evidence, though you can conveniently qualify that, which i do not and can not easily disagree...
