I do not question great economic progress in China in the past 10 years, but average Chinese's income (after inflation) does not increase much. The white collar workers actually experienced a decline in living standards since fresh out of college kids get the same pay that I got many years ago back in Shanghai and the price for living staples has more than doubled in that period. I was in Shanghai before last Christmas and everything on sale has reached U.S. price and any decent clothes/decor/snacks widely affordable for mid-class Americans are at least 40% more expensive than in States.
If you look further into the Huron Billionaire list--so many of them are billionaires in assets because of the large bank loans they got. Wait and see what happen in 2 years...
China's economy is deteriorating at an alarming speed and today's America will be tomorrow's China, at least in GuangDong and Shanghai.

--she is bluffing, trying to selling her only best "investment" for the greatest price she could fetch, at the peak of this economic cycle. If her family is truly rich enough with some decency, she will not talk in this way and she should understand what's more important for a woman when she is searching a husband.
Spend more time in the circle of east coast old-money families and you will see truly decent people that you want to connect to your family tree.
Anyway, you are not marrying a slut who bids for the highest offer-- you are marrying a lady for yourself, a mom for your kids and a grandma for your future generations.
