OK，ALDI 网站披露：其公司1976年才在美国登陆，并在一个很怪异的地方 -- 爱荷华州东南部 -- 开了第一家店:
“Aldi introduced the limited assortment concept to the United States in 1976 when the first stores were opened in southeastern Iowa. Today, Aldi Inc. operates over 800 stores in 27 states, primarily from Kansas to the east coast.” - From aldi.us
Trader Joe's 的历史，可以追溯到1958年，刚开始叫 “Pronto Markets”。1967年才开始叫 “Trader Joe's”，名从其创始人。（开山鼻祖是个股票交易贩子？）

问题来了，“美国Joe” 什么时候和 “德国阿呆” 勾搭成奸的？ “德国阿呆” 把 “美国股票交易贩子” 收入囊肿之后，如何在美国运作同质性高的两个 grocery chain？
非上市公司就是神秘，人家不披露，咱原来不知道的，就只能四处瞎打听了。
至少从美国 ALDI 和 Trader Joe‘s 看，他们不和 Wal-mart 正面竞争，一个是apple，一个是orange。至少我当年狂去Wal-Mart买便宜货，却从来没有动过在那里买日常食品grocery的念头。
到现在为止，Chicago方圆20英里之内，Trader Joe‘s有7家店，ALDI 有20多家店，当年在美国做穷学生时，肯定去买过便宜食品。
