Department Description
This Mobile Devices finishes engineering department resides within the Consumer Experience Design organization, which is responsible for specifying the look, feel, and user interface of all cellular handsets. This particular team provides two primary functions --- 1) developing new material and finish (M&F) technologies for future portfolio use, and 2) providing direct engineering leadership in tandem with the mechanical integration engineering team to deliver new M&F technologies on specific product applications.
Responsibilities/Expectations
Support efforts in region for coordinating decoration technologies among various suppliers for products re-launched with new colors. -Assist in providing on site support for evaluating and communicating color matching efforts on phone product components. -Responsible for being point contact on several products for color matching efforts at once in region and communicating results back to team in US on a regular basis. -Work with current suppliers to give clear direction and drive action for color matching efforts. -Coordinate obtaining parts for review in region and shipping to US for further review. -Willing to be trained and learn skill set for aligning technical process capability with color matching efforts. -Consult with subject matter experts and team associates on ?best practices? for applying finish technology products.
Specific Knowledge/Skills
-The minimum of a BSME or similar discipline degree is required; while advanced engineering degree(s) are preferred, portable product design experience is the overriding consideration -Must have a good overall understanding of manufacturing and decoration processes such as (spray coating, anodizing, and plating). Specific in-depth knowledge of a specific area is a plus. -Must be able to work independently with a wide variety of supplier interaction in many countries and cultures, with ability to make sound onsite judgements and a driving motivation to ensure quality in our products. -This position reports to U.S. based management but will be located in region with our current supply base (i.e. Hong Kong/Shenzhen or Beijing/Tianjin, China) and have specific interaction and support responsibilities with the local team. -Travel required in various areas of China. -Good English speaking and writing skills are required.
